Josh Appel, Brady Boitnott, and Codey Bishop

have committed to continuing their football careers. 

The Normal West Football Program celebrated the college signing of 3 of our athletes to play football on Wednesday, May 15th at 6:30 P.M. in the IMC.

• Josh Appel # 70 has accepted a full ride to Indiana State University as a long snapper and will major in Business. 
• Brady Boitnott # 32 has accepted a scholarship to play Linebacker for Iowa Central Community College where he will major in Agricultural Business.
• Codey Bishop # 34 has decided to attend Olivet Nazarene University where he will play Linebacker and major in Engineering.

We are so proud to have men of their character representing Normal West Football at the next level and wish them nothing but the best of luck!  We hope that you can come & celebrate this event with us on Wednesday.

As the Vice-President of the Football GridIron Club, I have the honor chairing the GIC Scholarship Committee comprised of Athletic Director, Stan Lewis, and Business Teacher and Golf Coach, Tim Franz. One of the Gridiron Club’s pillars is focused on Athlete Education.  The GridIron Club not only wants to support current student athletes, but also wants to see future success in these young individuals by awarding them scholarships for college.  As a result of our fundraising success, we voted to institute two $1,000 scholarships, named in honor of Coach Thoennes’ daughter, Caity Thoennes. 

 The scoring of the scholarships was based on 4 criteria: Years in football program; Extracurricular activities in school and outside of school, Quality and Content of a 500 word essay, and Impact to the football program.  Being our first year of the scholarships, we were amazed and astonished by the number of qualified applicants.  It was a very difficult decision with a very narrow margin, but we feel the two most deserving surfaced.  I am proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 Caity Thoennes Gridiron Club Scholarships… Jacob Jagla and Seth Emmert.  Thanks to both of you for your commitment to your community and for impacting the Normal West Football Program in such a positive way!

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

for students in 3^rd grade through High School.  All proceeds from the tournament will be going to the Thoennes family in honor of Caity.  There will be concessions during the tournament, dinner available from DP Dough, and a silent auction. 

              Caity was born on February 20, 2004 to Duane and Kary Thoennes.  Caity loved to fish and be outside, would get lost in books, twirled the baton, could sing and dance to any music, and loved art and making pictures for others.

                Caity loved Jesus with all her heart.  She kept her faith strong in Him, and modeled His life by loving others. Her enthusiasm for life was contagious!  She lived each day to the fullest, making each day the “BEST DAY EVER!”  Phil 4:13

                Unfortunately, Caity lost her battle with the flu on February 11, 2013.  This event has been organized to help the Thoennes Family.  It is a  tribute to The Children’s Hospital of Illinois and dedicated to the loving memory of Caity J. Thoennes.
